Who We Are...

Chou Chou jewelry designs is a new concept (we think) in jewelry design.  "Don't design for the fad, clothes or fashion... design for the woman."

When one looks at our eclectic selection of jewelry, they might wonder if possibly many designers were creating these varied works of art.  We would say no, only one, but, she is designing for the various women throughout our world.  Women come in all shapes sizes and ethnicities.  We are multifaceted, multitasking, and multitalented. 

Why would we all buy

the same exact, style, of jewelry? 

NO TWO WOMEN ARE ALIKE!

As women, we are unique, complex creatures, with different tastes and desires. Chou Chou does not duplicate any piece, with the exception of a different color in the same design.  Once all of those color choices are exhausted then so is the design.  This approach to jewelry creation has been graciously embraced  by our clientele. 

  Before the official retail website was established, in 2002, news of Chou Chou  jewelry design spread throughout Texas and the US.  Once women discovered Chou Chou and learned of the unique philosophy associated with the jewelry,  orders came in at a rapid pace.

   As of August 2004 Chou Chou has sold

jewelry throughout Texas, Mexico, and Europe.  Women as far away as the Canary Islands own some of our beautiful, creative designs.

Who is Cehlia Newman-Menéndez?

Cehlia Menéndez was born Cehlia Maria Barnum Newman in Celaya, Mexico in October of 1968.  Celaya had the only "advanced" hospital in that part of Mexico in the late 60s.  Cehlia's parents, originally from the Midwest United States, lived in the beautiful and historic town of San Miguel de Allende.

The Barnum/Newman family returned to the States in the early '70s.  Cehlia never forgot the beautiful, passionate and colorful country of her birth.  Her jewelry and artwork are influenced by the people and culture of Mexico.  "I return to Mexico as often as possible.  We spent Christmas 2003 in the Interior and San Miguel. I was so inspired by our adventures that I spent weeks creating pieces as soon as we returned home. What a beautiful country."

The former actress/model became a mother in 2000 and was forever changed.  Her love for her children and their influence in her life has been the catalyst for much of her artwork and jewelry today.  "My children have enabled me to see life through their eyes and it is a wondrous experience." 

Cehlia is a mother first and artist/designer second.  "We, my husband and I, have been given such glorious gifts in my son and daughter, they are what life, creativity, and love are all about." "My first priority is my children, the artwork and jewelry take a distant 3rd to God and my family."

Chou Chou is her third "baby" born out of the desire to express her creativity with her children, not away from them. "We, the children and I, are able to sit in my studio and create things together, it is,

bar none, my favorite work environment."

Mexican-born artist Cehlia creates

each piece to be unique, creative, and beautiful.
